The June 2000 reissue of the group's only album by Beat Goes On is significantly better than the original LP, expanded with the eight single sides they cut earlier for EMI/Columbia. Every one of the singles in question, A- or B-side, is superior to the majority of the album cuts that precede it on this CD. "Sweet Music" and its B-side "Face" display hard, rippling attacks on the instruments and soaring, powerful vocals, all hooked around excellent songs. "Sally" and "Champagne & Caviar" are two exercises in nostalgia that work, in much the same manner as "Honey Pie" by the Beatles. Their plunge into psychedelia is also very energetic as represented here, and "The First Cut Is the Deepest," with its heavy fuzztone guitar, deserved more attention than it got.
