This was Slick's first solo album, and it shows her at her very best. Strong voice. Strong songwriting. Incredibly creative. The only weakness is her decision to allow songs on the album that she wasn't involved with. It contains a few weak throwaways by some of her Jefferson Airplane/Starship cohorts, that seem out of place and take away from the quality of the album (the bagpipes on the Kantner cut are embarrassing). Still, the Slick material is amazing and a must have for any JA, JS or Slick fan. "Jay" is beautiful, "Theme from the movie Manhole" is intense and lyrical, "Better Lying Down" is bluesy, sexy and irreverant, and "Come Again, Toucan" is catchy and clever. J. Daly
