When Savage Rose released this album the band was down to the trio of vocalist extraordinary Annisette and the twins Anders Koppel (hammond, lyrics)and Thomas Koppel (piano, composition). Both very gifted and well-versed players, their father being a leading classical composer and pianist in Denmark.I will say that very few white musician has written better soul and gospel songs than Thomas, and the sound is certainly more Harlem than Copenhagen. The lyrics are highly charged politically, remember that at this time civil rights were a hot and controversial theme, the opening track being dedicated to Malcolm X.And in fact the album was marketed very poorly due to resistance from their international record company, but as always with Thomas & Co. the compositions and the playing is really timeless, just as relevant and moving today as when it first saw the light of day. And the moving "What Do You Do" is certainly one of the alltime greatest ballads.Bodhi Heeren
