Shady grove is my favorite QMS; it does not freak out like some of their other recordings but is very well composed, with two slow, hauntingly beautiful tracks, some hard rocking tunes and at least one long and groovy psychedelic jam session. Everything sounds a little queer, out of tune and squint-eyed, but it all holds together musically. Not many of the usual psychedelic clichés but a very original album; humoristic too.

Solid Silver, the reunion album, benefitted from excellent production and a strong set of songs. It wasn't the band of the late 60's, but then they had to progress and this was ok....unless you have an aversion to Dino Valente's nasal whine and adolescent cowboy fantasy songs delivered over his limited repertoire of chord changes....which I do. Nonetheless, the playing is good, the band sound great, far better than on the previous four albums. Dave Freiberg was gigging with the Starship at the time so his contribution is minimal, mores the pity.
