The Kaye way to chaos and corruption. The great Kaye stars as an illiterate stooge in a medicine show in this period comedy set in 19th Century Russia. The towns' corrupt officials mistake him for the Inspector General who, it is rumoured, is travelling in disguise. Naturally chaos ensues as Danny Kaye inadvertently stumbles his way toward the official's tax fraud secret - so they all decide they have to get rid of him and plans are drawn up to finish him off, which of course will be easier said than done.
