In the few years following the two 1970 albums - Workingman's Dead and American Beauty - and the Dead's post-1974 hiatus, the band played some beautiful jazz-tinged music, and Wake of the Flood features one of my favorite Dead songs of all time, Eyes of the World. If only that song were on this album, it would be a great album, but there's also Row Jimmy and Stella Blue, two radically different songs, Weather Report Suite, Bob Weir's long song, and the rhythmic Mississippi Half-step Uptown Toodeloo, which always puts a smile on my face. I admit that I don't listen to Here Comes Sunshine, which is a lesser song, but overall, this is one of the Dead's finest albums.
