This double LP is a rarity, a live set by the Miles Davis Quintet of 1969 (with Wayne Shorter on tenor and soprano, keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Dave Holland and drummer Jack Dejohnette). Recorded sometime between In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew, this continuous music has its straightahead moments and sometimes hints playfully at earlier standards (Davis at one point quotes a long passage from the Dixieland song "Royal Garden Blues") but mostly looks ahead toward the early and most creative years of fusion. Pity that he could not have kept this particular band together longer.
