Except for those who choose to regard this as the debut (and only) album by the band Barnstorm "featuring Joe Walsh", most people consider it to be JW's first solo outing. He did write most of it after all, as well as playing guitar and keyboards (including some nice touches of ARP synthesiser) and, as far as one can tell, sang lead on most tracks (though Joe Vitale's voice is similar so, in the absence of specific track by track credits, one can't be sure).

In flavour, it's pretty much a transition between his final album with The James Gang (Thirds, which is pretty good as well) and the next album The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get, which is generally held to be the highlight of his career (though that album definitely was more a group than a solo effort).

Anyway, on Barnstorm we find him ably supported by Joe Vitale (drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals & flute) along with Kenny Passarelli on bass and vocals. Rocke Grace didn't join the band until the next album. Julian Stevens
