Mick Abrahams is an excellent and underrated guitarplayer, on electric, acoustic and slideguitar, plus a fine singer/songwriter, as ample demonstrated on two earlier albums with Blodwyn Pig, my personal favorites. It is therefore with some shame that I have to admit not to have known his first effort afterwards, in 1971. With a new line up, instead of a flutist/saxophone-player now Bob Sargeant as keyboardist, who also sings and plays guitar and contributes some songs (and later has become a renown producer) he has made under his own monniker this album. The music is unmistakenbly Abrahams at the time of Blodwyn Pig, the singing, guitarplaying, the songs, the whole feeling. By adding an organ or piano the songstructure differs somewhat, whilst Sargeant sings on of the songs, his voice is different, but for the rest this is Blodwyn Pig Mark II. The first song "Greyhound Blues" has the same melodyline of "Send Your Son to Die" from the BP "Getting To This" album, the final song "Seasons" has the same guitarsolo as in "Ain't You're Going Home, Babe" from the BP album "Ahead Rings Out". Not a bad listening though, albeit not very surprising. Over all a solid album, nice to listen to. Abrahams didn't break new grounds, alas. Amazon-Kunde
