Inhalt

After disbanding the superb Trinity, Brian Auger ventured into the so-called jazz-rock fusion pioneered by Miles Davis. He named his new band according to his pessimism over their chances of success. This first outing fizzes with energy but hasn't aged well. The production is pretty muddy with bass pushed upfront and Auger's keyboards swamped by the rest of the band. The frequent guitar solos are drab and the material variable. Even so, the track 'Oblivion Express' and 'The Sword' are impressive and the tempo is high throughout. A lot of fine tuning would be needed for subsequent releases though. D. J. H. Thorn
