I think the mood you are in affects how you hear a record. I have not played this album in years and today i put it on , it sounded like a mess , a beautiful mess. The songs them selves are simple but the string arrangement's and backing vocals and at one point a circus band sound berserk and odd and great.I think some drugs may have been taken while recording. This is one of my favorite Roy Harper albums , it's so varied , gentle acoustic numbers , rock , jazzy tracks and strangeness. May be it's my mood but i thought this all sounds odd ........ odd but great , if i was stoned it would probably sound normal to me. Other reviewers have mentioned Dylan (pah) and Van Morrison but they are conventional compared to Roy. At one point Roy sings of a love affair with 13 year old girl ,you wouldn't get away with it today Roy . This is music of another time , mad , strange and beautiful. Carl Adams
