Based on a novel by Kotaro Isaka, Fish Story weaves together several seemingly separate storylines across a 37-year span to explain how a little-known punk rock song can save the world. In 1975, the obscure Japanese punk band Gekirin records "Fish Story," a song ahead of its time, but the band breaks up due to poor sales. In 1982, a timid college student becomes fascinated by rumors about the song. In 2009, a teenager left behind on a boat is consoled by a cook amid a hijacking attempt. In 2012, with a comet threatening Earth, a record store plays "Fish Story" as the world nears its end, linking all events through the song's mysterious power.
