Chicago follow up to the sensational CTA debut - widening their horizons with pop songs, suites, protest songs and orchestral work. Now approaching it's 45th birthday this remastered disc sheds new light on some of the more intricate band arrangements on Ballet for The Girl & Fancy Colours. 25 or 6 to 4 can be heard with Kath's blistering guitar work demonstrating that Kath was up there with best of the guitarists of the day, not a drug song but a song about Lamm struggling to write - didn't struggle for long as Poem for the People shows.

The only minus point is that the extended suite of Better End Soon sounds lyrically dated but in 1970 with the Vietnam war raging this was the bands anti-war message. In a few years this would be lost with the death of Kath and the bands slide into AOR but listen to Robert Lamm, James Pankow and the great Terry Kath at their peak here more than ever. Mr. A. W.
