Kurzbeschreibung: Caroline Herschel (1750-1848) was the first salaried female in history of astronomy, and earned fame through her collaboration with her brother William as well as by her own discoveries of comets. We know of both of them primarily through her autobiographies, here edited for the first time. In 1772 William Herschel rescued his sister Caroline from drudgery in Hanover, and took her first to Bath and then to the environs of Windsor Castle where he became astronomer to the Court. Her collaboration was crucial in his achievement in redirecting the science of stellar astronomy. We know of them both primarily through the two autobiographies Caroline wrote in later life, and these are now made available for the first time, complete and in a critical edition.
