Listening to [the album] again after nearly forty years (...) I am struck most of all by how sophisticated the musical arrangements are. Don Airey, who went on to play in Jethro Tull and Deep Purple amongst others, puts in a sensational performance and demonstrates yet again that he is the jazz/rock keyboard player against whom others should be measured - and that includes the heavyweight Emerson/Wakeman axis. Jon Hiseman, of course, is scintillating as always, his drumming a mixture of driving force and crisp, precise fills. (As my mate Dave observed just before Hiseman launched into his live drum solo, "It must be very gratifying to know that this is the moment at least half your audience have been waiting for.") He is the powerhouse of the band and contributes hugely to their overall sound. The real surprise, however, is Gary Moore. Having listened extensively to his latterday blues/rock albums, I was impressed by his tastefulness and subtlety here. It's still unmistakably our Gary but his playing is entirely in sympathy with the tone and feel of the rest of the band.
