Obwohl diese Stilrichtung bis heute von männlichen Interpreten beherrscht wird (die Ruhmeshalle ¿Country Music Hall of Fame¿ umfasst 105 Männer und nur 14 Frauen), konnten sich etliche Damen durchsetzen und ebenfalls zu erfolgreichen Stars aufsteigen, wie diese 200 Songs beweisen. Zu den bekanntesten gehört neben June Carter, der Frau von Johnny Cash, auch Dolly Rebecca Parton, Jahrgang 1946. Mit sieben Jahren begann sie Gitarre zu spielen und und trat bereits drei Jahre später erstmals öffentlich auf. Ihrem ersten Hit ¿Dumb blonde¿ folgten Dutzende weitere, für die sie mit acht Grammies ausgezeichnet wurde.
Aber natürlich verkaufte nicht jede Country-Lady so wie Dolly hundert Millionen Schallplatten; so enthält diese Box auch viele Raritäten, darunter sogenannte Antwort-Songs. Darunter versteht man Titel, die sich auf einen bereits erfolgreichen Hit beziehen wie ¿I`ll always be your Fraulein¿, mit dem Kitty Wells auf ¿Fraulein¿ von Bobby Helms antwortete. Andere Interpretinnen wechselten in den 1950er Jahren kurzzeitig und kommerziell erfolgreich zum Rock`n`Roll wie etwa Wanda Jackson, die 1965 sogar mit dem deutschsprachigen ¿Santa Domingo¿ einen Hit landete. Auch andere Country-Ladies wie Patsy Cline und Jean Shepard konnten rocken und bewegten sich mit manchen ihrer Songs an der Grenze zum Rockabilly. Doch die meisten Titel in dieser Box lassen sich unter dem Begriff Schmusemusik einordnen: sehnsuchtsvoll, romantisch, voller Herzschmerz und mit eingängigen Melodien wie zum Beispiel beim ¿Tennessee Waltz¿ von Patti Page. Bei diesen Aufnahmen kann man vom stressigen Alltag abschalten und heilsame Harmonien genießen; Rose Maddox, Skeeter Davis, Bonnie Guitar und viele andere Künstlerinnen wecken Erinnerungen an eine Zeit, in der die Musik ehrlich und handgemacht war, weil es noch keine Computer und Multitrack-Maschinen gab.
