An Oriental Approach to Jazz Improvisation; Employing Turkish Makam, Arabic Maqam & Northern Indian Raga Scales and Modes is a comprehensive study on setting Arabic, Turkish, and Northern Indian scales and modes into context and about blending and employing them in jazz improvisation. It contains about two dozens of the above-mentioned music cultures' scales and modes each as well as their transpositions. Scales and modes which any jazz musician interested in South-Western Asian or Northern Indian music should be familiar with. Ethno/Oriental-jazz multi-instrumentalist (tanbur, baglama, fretted and fretless guitar a.k.a. "perdesiz gitar") and author Thomas Mikosch was born in Germany.

Thomas has over 25 years of experience as a lecturer, private teacher, and studio musician for various soundtrack-recordings as well as radio productions under his belt and is actively cultivating the musical exchange between Orient and Occident.
