Atom Egoyan's bold erotic thriller is a multi-layered, enigmatic portrait of lives shaped by desire and delusion, centered around the employees and patrons of a Toronto strip club called "Exotica".

 

Francis Brown (Bruce Greenwood), a grieving tax auditor, is a regular at the club, where he develops an obsessive, ritualistic relationship with a young stripper named Christina (Mia Kirshner). His nightly visits, where he pays for private dances but cannot touch, draw the jealousy of the club's DJ, Eric (Elias Koteas). This leads to a complex web of deceit and psychological games involving a smuggler of rare birds and Francis's own tragic past.
