Was kann die Landwirtschaft zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung europäischer Städte beitragen? Wie können durch Acker­ und Gartenbau vitale Stadträume mit neuen sozialen und ökologischen Qualitäten geschaffen werden, die auch ökonomisch tragfähig sind? Urban Agriculture Europe ist die erste umfassende, transdisziplinäre Publikation zu urbaner Agrikultur in Europa. Über bekannte Beispiele urbaner Nutzgärten in westeuropäischen Metropolen hinaus werden innovative Formen der Landwirtschaft am Stadtrand untersucht und Erfahrungen aus Ost­ und Südeuropa eingebracht. Die Beiträge nähern sich aus sozialwissenschaftlicher, ökonomischer, agrarökologischer und stadtplanerischer Sicht der Urbanen Agrikultur und thematisieren die Rollen von Bürgern, Akteuren und Politik ebenso wie Betriebsmodelle und Planungsinstrumente. Fallstudien aus Barcelona, Dublin, Genf, Mailand, Sofia, Warschau und der Metropole Ruhr ermöglichen einen vergleichenden Blick auf die europäische Praxis. Statements von Akteuren und Handlungsempfehlungen für Städte und Regionen runden den Band ab.
