The result, Domino, is among his greatest LP works. Kirk¿s unprecedented, virtuosic playing further divided jazz fans when he previewed much of this album¿s repertoire at the Newport Jazz Festival that summer.The prescient fans by then were hailing Kirk as a great discovery ¿ a judgment that looked better with every passing year. But let¿s pay, here, not that spherical-breathing piper but the visionary poet, who wrote compositions that still startle in their originality. Eight of Kirk¿s compositions are presented in this reissue, and his ideas get great support from the piano playing of Andrew Hill and Wynton Kelly.
