Inhalt

Battle of the Field is a good contribution to English Folk Rock and makes a musically interesting album. This recording has a rich line up of musicians and some excellent folk songs.
The album was recorded in summer 1973 and it has a solid and strong feel to it.
Ashley Hutchings had formed a group after leaving Steeleye Span. They worked on a few projects. This included the album "No Roses" for Shirley Collins and the albums "Morris On".1972 (Ashley Hutchings and friends)
In 1973 the group used the name The Albion Country Band for the first time for this recording as just a project from the band.
The group line up consisted of Martin Carthy on vocals and acoustic guitar. (who had worked with Hutchings in the second line up of Steeleye Span) John Kirkpatrick on vocals, anglo concertina, button accordion, melodeon and electric piano, (who had worked with Hutchings on the previous "Morris On" album, Sue Harris, on Vocals, oboe and hammer dulcimer. (was associated with Kirkpatrick and his wife around this time) Simon Nicol on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, electric dulcimer and synthesiser. (who had worked with Hutchings in the group Fairport Convention) Roger Swallow, drums and percussion. (well known through the 60s and 70s as touring and session drummer for many recording artists. Also present were Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention) who plays percussion on "Reaphook and sickle" and Martin Nicholls, John Iveson, Colin Sheen and Paul Beer who play Sackbuts on "Galliant Poacher". And of course Ashley Hutchings on vocals and Electric bass guitar. Amazon-Kundin
