Sony Classical feiert den 100. Geburtstag der amerikanischen Tenor-Legende Richard Tucker mit der Veröffentlichung der limitierten CD-Box »The Song and Cantorial Album Collection«. Diese einzigartige Zusammenstellung enthält 14 CDs in Originaloptik der legendären LP-Cover und ermöglicht einen Einblick in das vielseitige Repertoire Tuckers. Synagogale Werken und bekannte jüdische Volksweisen stehen im Mittelpunkt neben Songs aus Musicals wie der »Westside Story« und »Fiddler on the roof« sowie berühmten Opernarien. Mehr als drei Stunden Musik sind dabei erstmalig auf CD zu hören.
Geboren am 28. Aug. 1913 in New York, begann »America's greatest tenor« schon mit 6 Jahren im Chor der Synagoge zu singen. Zu seinen späteren Lehrern zählen berühmte Kantoren wie Samuel Weisser und Zavel Zilberts. Mit 22 Jahren wurde er selbst Vorbeter in der Synagoge und startete wenig später seine Opernkarriere an der MET in NY. Die »Cantorial Jewels« zählen zu den größten Erfolgen Tuckers. Sie umfassen LPs wie »Israel sings«, »Welcome the Sabbath«, »Kol Nidre Service« und »Hatikvah!« und beeinflussten neben einer ganzen Generation junger Kantoren ebenfalls den damals aufstrebender Popstar Elvis Presley.
